Our Curriculum

Towcester Tots provide all children of any age, interesting activities to help with their continuous development, taking into account individual needs and interests, including children who have particular needs and disabilities that may need additional support.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework.

There are 7 areas of learning and development which we follow:-

PRIME AREAS focus on Personal, social and emotional development, Communication and language and Physical development

SPECIFIC AREAS focus on Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design

These 7 areas of learning are underpinned by the Characteristics of Learning:-  Playing and Exploration,  Active Learning and Creating and Thinking Critically.

Within our daily practice we will observe and assess the children in their play focussing on the 7 areas of learning.

We are very passionate about using natural materials and everyday equipment such as pottery, telephones, cutlery and fresh produce to enhance the opportunities for all the children in our care.  We follow the Curiosity Approach within our learning environment that allows the children to be curious learners, use open-ended resources and achieve their next steps.

Children are born with a natural desire to explore and learn and practitioners can support them in this.  We do this by creating an enabling environment and through the relationships and interactions that the children experience.  We do not plan ahead, rather we remain “in the moment” with the children as they explore and learn.  We observe carefully, and enhance the learning whenever we spot a “teachable moment”.  Our observations, interactions and the outcomes are recorded afterwards.
